The First Ever Lie-Flat Infant Carrier; The KiddyUK Evoluna i-Size

Buying a car seat is always a big deal in pregnancy; after all, you can't take your new baby home from the hospital without one! With Archie, we had one included with our travel system and we ended up using it as a pram more often than we intended as the carrycot was too large to fit in our car. I was always concerned about the 2 hour limit and I'd constantly be clock-watching to ensure A had plenty of breaks from the car seat when we were out and about.
Whilst expecting baby #2, I was offered the chance to try out the Evoluna i-Size by KiddyUK—I was so excited to be able to eliminate at least one worry as the Evoluna i-Size is the first infant carrier that has the ability to lie your child flat and in the optimum position for safer breathing. By simply holding a button on either side of the seat and gently pushing the handle back, your baby is placed in a lie-flat and comfortable sleeping position; a position you can keep them in whether they're in the car or on a pram chassis.
The 2 hour 'rule'
The '2 hour rule' is the safety recommendation endorsed by all manufacturers that you shouldn't have a child sitting in a car seat for more than 2 hours at a time. The reason is that babies and very young children can experience breathing problems if placed in a seated or scrunched position for too long.
Fitting the isofix base
The Evoluna i-Size comes with an isofix base which is easy to fit (see the Kiddy UK website to find out if your car or pushchair is compatible: check the bottom of the product page here). We only have one base at the moment and regularly swap it between cars which only takes seconds to do; the key is to ensure the green dots are showing when the car seat is clicked into the base to know whether everything's fitted correctly.
The good & bad
The seat itself looks great, comes in a variety of different colours and patterns (all of which are vibrant and gorgeous!) and is well-cushioned (especially fab for teeny babies like mine); the seat is no bigger than any other car seat I've used and feels about the same weight as our previous carrier, though the fact that it's so much safer for baby to be in completely outweighs the fact that it can feel a little heavy at times. We've been using the Evoluna i-Size for almost 4 weeks now and it's been fantastic; we're so much happier as parents knowing that Blue can lie-flat when he's sleeping and we're in no rush to wake and move him. I would highly recommend it to others and we'll be strongly considering Kiddy UK's other car seats for when the babies are a bit older!
