On life. On blogging. On design.
Now we're in the era of social media and blogs, and we're all trying to keep our friends, family & readers updated on what's going on, it can be hard to do so in one particular place. Some will follow our Twitter, our Instagram, some will simply catch-up on the blog every now & then, whilst others are simply interested in following our YouTube channel. I sometimes feel extremely disorganised with all of the above on-the-go, plus Facebook (personal & business) and with my design business running parallel to blogging too. So, here's a little about what's going on with us..
Archie Archie is 4.5 now and fast approaching school (how!?); he's as lively as ever and going through one crazy growth spurt where he asks for food every 5 minutes. He's had a few rough behavioural stages, but he's as outgoing and confident as ever. He's excited to start school, loves to dance and comes out with some of the most hilarious phrases (would I even be a parent if I didn't forget them all instantly?). I recently filmed an interview with a four year old over on our YT channel so if you want to see a bit more of the cheeky boy who helped start this journey (including how old he thinks I am and what his favourite vegetable is, those are just some of the highlights), pop over for a visit.
Jesse Blue Jesse is closing in on his second birthday and he's thriving. To those who have followed our co-sleeping/breastfeeding journey, we're still very much doing both at 21 months. Honestly, nursing to sleep has made life a whole lot easier and I'm reluctant to take it away and experience the horde of tears & tantrums that will inevitably follow. Right now, bedtimes are [mostly] all downtime & cuddles, and I'm desperately trying to hold onto that,
I plan on waiting until after he's two, when he can understand and reason better, before starting the journey to stopping the boob, but co-sleeping will probably continue until he's old enough to go into his own bed (where he'll join his brother in his room) as we've accepted the cot will never be used. In other news, his vocabulary is improving every day which is new to us, as Archie didn't really say more than few words until after he turned two, but Jesse's already stringing short sentences together.
Martin and I Things are plodding along and we have a holiday in Bluestone to look forward to in a couple of weeks time. I've been buying a few bits for the boy's Summer wardrobe that I'm hoping to do a YouTube video on before we go. We're also planning on having a new bathroom fitted in the next couple of months so we've been throwing some energy into organising that but otherwise, things are perfectly ordinary!
Over the past year, a lot has happened with Hello Archie; I moved to https and changed domains (from helloarchie.blue to helloarchie.co), so that the website was more secure and because '.blue' wasn't compatible with Moz, meaning I couldn't get a DA score, impacting on sponsored work or earning money through my blog. It's taken a while, but my backlinks are starting to build again, I finally have a DA score and I've also stopped running Marvellous Mondays and only started to post when I have something I want to share or write about, not simply to fulfil a quota or schedule (I used to force myself to post 2/3 times a week).
I've naturally moved into kid's fashion and sharing the brands we love, creating lookbook-style photography posts, as well as recording our memories and days out. I've regularly worked with Bobux who make the most beautiful and hard-wearing kid's shoes, and will be working on another campaign with them shortly. I'll also be sharing a couple of Summer clothing hauls on our YT channel so go and subscribe if those could be of interest to you.
Ever since leaving my job whilst on maternity leave with Jesse, I've set up my own freelance graphic and web design business and have been slowly building a client base. It's just something else that's taken priority over everything else as it's how I earn the majority of my money. For that reason, I've decided to start sharing some of the design projects I've recently been working on in the hope that my audience can see what I work on and may choose to hire me as a designer.
To find out more about that side of things, visit my design services page. The first two projects are almost ready to go and I'll start publishing them once I have the OK from my wonderful clients. Though I work with established businesses, I also love the smaller jobs, rebranding blogs and customising their themes, designing business cards/logos etc. so I'm definitely happy to take on both.
