Coping With The 4 Month(ish) Sleep Regression
I'd heard a lot about the 4 month sleep regression and needless to say, we'd been dreading it. Archie is an average-good sleeper. Since the age of about 3.5 months, he settled well into a bedtime routine, and he slept 5 hours a night up to (at his best) 10 hours a night.
Honestly, nothing majorly changed at the 4 month mark besides the fact that he had started to sleep 7-5, wake for a feed, then back to sleep until 6:30/7. Now he has regressed slightly to waking up at 3am for a feed, then again at 5, then back to sleep until 6:30/7. It sucks (I was getting used to my 10-hour stretch) but I really can't complain when I hear about some babies waking every few hours again (he did this for one night).
Although, I do wonder if we're just experiencing the 4 month sleep regression now (at nearly 5 months!) as I used to be able to put Archie in his crib awake and he'd go off within 5-10 minutes but the last few nights he has become a newborn again! I have to rock him and gently put him down without waking for him to even go to sleep at all resulting in a lot of guilt on my part as I feel as if I'm breaking all the good work we'd done, but sometimes you just need to do what you can to get through it. Bring back my good sleeper please!
